DETAILED INFORMATION ON WHAT DO YOU NEED TO HAVE A WEBSITE

Here is a quick explanation of what you need in order to have a functional website, how to obtain them, and what help we can give you with each:

1.) DOMAIN NAME- The domain name is your unique preferred name to be obtained from a Domain Registrar. (Registrar- acts like a DTI in the Philippines).  Domain Name could be your business name, your name, your company name, or a combination of alphabets and numbers, followed by a .com, .net,  .org, .ph, .gov, .edu, etc.; provided that it has NOT YET BEEN TAKEN or REGISTERED. Few examples of famous domain names are google.com, facebook.com, yahoo.com, youtube.com, twitter.com and thatnameinyourmind.com! In a nutshell, it is your internet address where your visitors should go.

It is the DOMAIN NAME that they will type on the Internet Browser (Example: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) in order to access your website. Registration of Domain Name is about Php600.00 to Php3000.00+ per year. Not all Registrars offer all the same additional services, and NOT ALL ARE EASY TO DEAL WITH when you need to change something. The lowest price is often not the best deal. Bandwidthmakers can help you verify if your preferred DOMAIN NAME is still available. FREE.

2.) HOSTING- The second requirement, called HOSTING provides storage space for your website data, always ready and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Quickly responding and dispatching required information once requested. When someone typed your DOMAIN NAME in the Internet Browser, your hosting will act as a server to provide these STORED information you wish your visitors to see.

A hosting service will cost anywhere from a few hundreds to thousands of peso per month or more. It is very important to select a hosting service that provides features and services meeting the needs of your site. Do not contract with a hosting service until you have selected your webmaster; you will need their guidance on requirements.

It is unimportant where your hosting service is physically located. It is often unwise to contract for hosting services that come bundled with some other service, such as your ISP, your site-registration, or your web site production.

3.) THE COMPUTER CODE- The third requirement is the computer code that actually comprises your web site. Since human language is different from computer language, the programmers needs to translate your specific instructions and provided information into computer languages. Your images, informational materials and designs will be written in a COMPUTER CODE, the ONLY language that these machines could understood. This is a non-recurring startup cost, and will be your largest initial layout. There is a great range in cost depending on the magnitude and complexity of the site and its constellation of features and functions.

For a decently-done business web site this can run anywhere from Fifteen Thousand to several Hundreds of Thousands of pesos. In selecting someone to do this, find someone who will work with you by estimate or by fixed-price packages, not by hourly rate (unless you know how long everything ought to take).

Web design is the responsibility of your webmaster who must determine the scope and nature of your site's requirements, analyze and organize the layout and connectivity, and define and code the visible pages and the underlying functions to meet these requirements.

One of the great things about the internet is that it has leveled the playing field when it comes to competing with the big boys. You have one shot at making a good first impression. With a well-designed site, your little operation can project the image and professionalism of a much larger company.

The inverse is also true. There are many big company websites that were so badly designed and hard to navigate that they completely lacked professionalism and credibility. Good for you, too bad for them.

When it comes to benefiting from a website, size does not matter. Whether you're a one-man show or a 10,000-employee corporate giant; if you don't have a website, you're losing business to other companies that do.
